Abstract In order to solve the haphazard and limitations caused by single weighting in highway traffic safety evaluation methods, considering the aspects of road alignment, road conditions, safety facilities, and traffic environment, a two-level indicator system for highway safety level evaluation is established. Combining the common subjective weighting and objective weighting features, an optimized highway safety evaluation model is established on the basis of consistency checking and improved grey correlation-combination weighting method. The result of the case shows that the application of improved grey correlation-combination weighting method not only can effectively evaluate the overall safety of highways and get the safety level for the constructed highway safety evaluation system but also can determine the index weight and its impact degree on traffic safety in the evaluation of a particular project.
