An experimental and image analysis procedure were used to study the intra-ply shear behavior of 3-dimensional weft knitted spacer fabrics. In this work, the picture frame fixture was designed to determine its suitability for measuring intra-ply shear behavior of 3D spacer fabric. The nonlinear behavior of shear force versus shear angle and the deformation mechanism were analyzed. The shear force versus shear angle curves and wrinkles position of in-plane shear test are recorded by considering two different frame lengths to compare with each other and load–displacement curves of inter-ply shear test are also analyzed. In addition to this, the program was developed in matlab using Hough transform to analyze the shear angle in the image taken during displacement of specimen at various positions. This image analyzed results were compared with the actual experimental results. The findings of intra-ply shear behavior spacer fabrics using image processing and experimental techniques are important for various functional application. From the results obtained in this work, it is suggested that the picture frame fixture still requires minor modifications to increase the accuracy of shear behavior of textile materials.

In this study, color emotion based on CNCS color system was investigated. The research included single color preference and multi-color coordination emotion. Six themes of International Textile color traded were selected as color samples. At the first step, forty-two single colors were regarded as color samples for color preference survey. At the second step, twenty-four kinds of color coordination were made according to six color concepts, and color emotion survey for multi-color coordination was conducted. In the second part, fifteen color emotion scales such as “modern-classic”, “formal-casual”, “gaudy-tasteful”, “lively-stiff”, “intellectual-nonintellectual”, “like-dislike” and so on were selected according to Semantic Differential Method. The survey was conducted among the undergraduate college students from Xi’an Polytechnic University. Color histogram was used to express the result of single color preference. It was clear that the popularity of these released colors was not average and the more favorite colors were pale chromatic colors. Factor Analysis and cluster analysis were used to conduct the data from the second part survey. Three factors were extracted and labeled “personality”, “taste”, and “fashion”. Twenty-four multi-color combinations were classified into three groups. It indicated that the comprehensive color emotion was more important than other factors.

This study investigated the adsorption capacity to remove C.I. Reactive Red 35 by three different adsorbent beads, consisting of pure chitosan and two different chitosan/titania (TiO2) composite beads with the TiO2 being obtained either from the sol-gel method or from added commercial TiO2 (A100-TiO2). From the obtained dye adsorption capacities, the chitosan/TiO2 composite beads with A100-TiO2 had the highest adsorption ability to remove reactive dye solution up to 97%, compared to the chitosan/TiO2 composite beads with TiO2 obtained from the sol-gel method (adsorption capacity of 70-45%). This maybe because the A100-TiO2 contained in the chitosan/TiO2-sol composite beads was in the anatase crystalline form, while the TiO2 obtained from the sol-gel method did not form a good anatase crystalline form, as shown by X-ray diffraction patterns and SEM micrographs. The crystallization of anatase formed in the composite beads enhanced the adsorption capacity of the composite beads. Pure chitosan adsorbent also showed a good adsorption capacity (95%) due to the electrostatic interactions between chitosan and C.I. Reactive Red 35.

In order to improve some defects of pure chitosan membrane, such as the high brittleness and poor flexibility etc... This paper adopted a simple and effective method to realize the performance optimization by blending with Poly Lactic Acid (PLA) and Poly (vinyl alcohol) (PVA). The result indicated that compared with pure CS membrane, moisture absorption rate and Water Vapor Transmission Rate (WVTR) of CS/PLA and CS/PVA blend membranes have been greatly improved. With a certain amount of the PLA or PVA, the breaking elongation of the blend membrane rise steadily. The physical properties of CS/PLA blend membrane are better than the CS/PVA’s, so the research for CS/PLA blend membrane is expanding. With the scanning electron microscopy (SEM) images, it observed that the CS/PLA blend membrane's porosity is improved after freeze-drying, and have better porous structure, the pore size and morphology with different blending ratios changed significantly. Beside the SEM images, CS/PLA blend membranes' Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) reveal that the strong hydrogen bonds formed between CS and PLA, which is consistent with the conclusions of the Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC). The DSC curve analysis shows that the decomposition temperatures of the blend membrane decrease firstly and then increase with the decrease of CS content. The comprehensive property of the porous membranes is optimal point where the CS content is 60%. The good properties, such as moisture regain, porosity, and water vapor transmission rate, of the kind of CS/PLA or CS/PVA blend membranes suggested a potential application in wound dressing.

The yarn density is always considered as the fundamental structural parameter used for the quality evaluation of woven fabrics. Conventional yarn density is measured by one-side image analysis. In this paper, a novel density measurement method is developed for yarn dyed woven fabrics based on dual-side fusion technique. Firstly, both face-side and back-side image of woven fabric are acquired via a lab-used dual-side imaging system. Secondly, the affine transform is used for dual-side image alignment. Then, the color images of woven fabrics are transferred from RGB to CIE-Lab color space , the intensity information of image extracted from L component is used for the texture fusion and analysis. Subsequently, the dual-side image is merged by the self-developed Wavelet transform fusion method. Finally, the fast Fourier transform is utilized to measure yarn density of the fused image, the yarn alignment image could be reconstructed using inverse fast Fourier transform. Our experimental results show that the accuracy of density measurement by using proposed method is close to 99.44% compared with traditional method and the robustness of this new proposed method is better than that of conventional analysis methods.
